SF Chamber Statement on Announcement Regarding DACA

Immigrants are job creators who have made – and continue to make – incredible contributions to the economic well-being of our city, and whose talents are critical to keeping San Francisco at the forefront of American innovation. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) has protected nearly 800,000 young adult unauthorized immigrants from deportation, allowing them after rigorous background checks to work legally in the U.S. and become members of our communities. These young adults are pursuing higher education, supporting their families and becoming the next generation of innovators who buy homes, grow our economy and create jobs. I’m proud that the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront in its longstanding support of immigration reform which is crucial to our economic future, and unequivocally opposes ending DACA. Ending DACA would remove hundreds of thousands of workers from the nation’s economy, causing widespread economic and social effects. The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, with more than 2,500 member business organizations, stands with our DREAMers who enrich our communities and cultivate a dynamic economy.
