COVID-19 (novel coronavirus)
On March 16th Mayor London N. Breed today announced that the Health Officer of the City and County of San Francisco has issued a Public Health Order requiring that residents remain in place, with the only exception being for essential needs. Essential government services to will remain open, such as transit, police, fire, and healthcare services, as well as essential stores like grocery markets, pharmacies, banks, and gas stations. On March 10th the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) reported a total of 14 COVID-19 cases in San Francisco. SFDPH will continue to provide updates on the number of COVID-19 cases on their webpage: www.sfdph.org/dph/alerts/coronavirus.asp.
On March 5th the City and County of San Francisco announced presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in two San Francisco residents. The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) lab conducted COVID-19 tests for the two patients, and found positive results. The two patients are unrelated and both are being cared for at separate hospitals. The patients do not have a history of travel to a location with confirmed COVID-19 cases, and have no known contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case. These cases are likely indicative of community transmission of COVID-19.
On February 25th Mayor London Breed made an emergency declaration in response to COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). This declaration of emergency was made so that our local government can tap into state and federal resources to boost our preventive and protective measures. The declaration of emergency is a pro-active move from the Mayor’s office that will allow our local government to better respond to public health concerns.

COVID-19 Text Alerts: Text COVID19SF to 888-777 to receive COVID19 health and safety information form AlertSF. The system administered by the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management lets public health and safety officials send text messages about the virus and its impact to San Francisco, including public health and safety instructions. The system will also be used to communicate event cancellations and public facility closures, should they occur.
