What is the secret to your longevity?
Odoo’s secret to longevity is its flexibility. Because the platform is open-source, the community is constantly suggesting and creating improvements to a number of unique challenges that businesses face every day. Thanks to the strong support from Odoo’s internal developers and the global community, a new version of the software is released every year with new apps, streamlined processes, and numerous upgrades to constantly evolve for the needs of a modern business. This flexibility allows Odoo to be intuitive, agile, and constantly growing in scope.
What is the story behind its creation?
Odoo was started when its founder, Fabien Pinckaers, was a graduate student. His father owned an antiques business and he realized the business could truly benefit from a well-organized ERP system. Pinckaers knew his father could not afford larger, legacy ERPs like Oracle or SAP, so he set out to develop one from the ground up! This small ERP, initially known as TinyERP, served its creator’s father well and Pinckaers soon realized there were many other small businesses that could benefit from such a comprehensive software that didn’t have the barrier to entry of larger (and more expensive) providers. From there, the software was further refined, becoming OpenERP, and eventually evolving into a global company – Odoo.
