Hospitality Ordinance Coming Soon

Supervisors Jane Kim and Malia Cohen will soon introduce the Hospitality Industry Worker Retention ordinance requiring large hotels, restaurants with more than 200 employees, and concessionaires to retain existing employees for 90 days for preferential hiring purposes when undergoing a change of ownership. The ordinance is modeled on similar legislation passed by the Board of Supervisors in 2006 for grocery store workers. The Chamber is working with the Hotel Council, Golden Gate Restaurant Association and others to ensure that those in the hospitality sector retain flexibility to staff their businesses in ways that best suit the needs of new owners. Click here to engage with the Chamber on this issue.
