Why is British Columbia an ideal partner for San Francisco businesses?
The proximity and talent make BC a special place for any potential business partner. Although historically it is a resource-driven economy, the province has the fastest growing technology startup ecosystem in all of Canada and has emerged as one of the most diverse and vibrant places to live on the West Coast. Not to mention, the quality of life and broad range of outdoor activities make it an amazing to do live and do business.

What are some issues that British Columbia is facing that are similar to those in San Francisco?
As a booming tech sector in BC is emerging, we are hoping to learn from San Francisco’s growing pains. Certainly we will face similar challenges around affordable housing, transportation and infrastructure. We also think that both places are positioned to take the lead on smart city/sustainability initiatives to help solve these issues and be an example for the rest of the world.

What are some of the top business opportunities available in British Columbia’s economy?
The best opportunities are found in the innovation happening in CleanTech, Life Sciences and AR/Digital FX/VR. Those three sectors are flourishing and warrant many of the headlines around the BC economy but there are also more nascent sub-sectors like blockchain development and customer acquisition who are quietly creating notable companies. BC also has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the G7 and offers generous tax credits to encourage growth in targeted sectors.

What products does British Columbia specialize in trading, specifically to the San Francisco Bay Area region?
As mentioned above, we have a strong technology startup ecosystem that yearns for more investment and more collaboration from the Bay Area.
