‘Ban the Box’ Goes Into Effect

The Chamber-supported Fair Hire Ordinance, which prohibits employers from asking job applicants about their criminal histories until after the first interview, went into effect for private employers with 20 or more employees on Wednesday. The “ban the box” ordinance, as it is commonly known, restricts the types of criminal offenses about which employers and contractors may inquire about when making hiring and personnel decisions.
